Hedy Lamarr was an Austrian inventor and a Hollywood star.

In 1933 she participated in Gustav Machaty’s film called “Ecstasy”, where the clips showing her naked gained public attention. She changed her name to Hedy Lamarr after arriving in the US. Inspired by mute movie star Barbara La Marr, Hedwig Kiesler became known as Hedy Lamarr.

The same year, she got married to one of the richest people in Europe, Austrian millionaire Friedrich Mandl. After their divorce, Hedy often remembered how controlling her husband was in terms of her career. He was against her being an actress and used to buy most copies of “Ecstasy” as an act of protest.

Mandl often took her to business partners and scientific meetings, where Lamarr learned military technology. Todays’ communication technology, like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS, are based on Lamarr and her partner Antheil’s invention of the radio-hopping signal.

For her achievements in cinematography, Lamarr has a Hollywood star, and her birthday, November 9th is named the day of inventors in the US.
